The Solar System consists of our Sun, and all of the objects that orbit around it. This includes the 8 known planets, dwarf planets, asteroids and numerous comets, moons, and other space debris. The 8 known planets in our Solar System are, in order from closest to the Sun out: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and is very small in size. It has no moon and is a barren rock that has a very hot climate. Venus is covered in thick, thick clouds and has a surface temperature of over 464 C (867 F), making it the hottest planet in our Solar System. It has no moons. Earth is the third planet from the Sun, and is the only planet known to have life on it. It has one moon. Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and is known for its red color. It has two moons, Phobos and Deimos. Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun. It is much larger than any other planet in our Solar System, and is composed mostly of gas. It has 63 known moons.
